Jake Peavy Headlines WoodJock 2010
March 10th, 2010 | by Howard |We’ve seen the golf tournaments, the bowling tournaments and all the dinners and silent auctions that help raise money and awareness for a variety of caritable organizations, but this Thursday, March 11th at The Venue in Old Town Scottsdale, we’re in for something different. Welcome to WoodJock 2010! For those of you that are taking in Cactus League games this week, I highly recommend you treat yourself to a night where you can watch players like Jake Peavy, Gordon Beckham and Scott Linebrink trade in their cleats for a night to become rock stars. The event, labeled as “A Big League Jamfest”, was created by Peavy and his agent, Barry Axelrod, as a way to, not only help raise money for the Jake Peavy Foundation, but also to afford the players an opportunity to show the world some of their other talents.
Along with some of your favorite White Sox, the artist lineup has a fantastic mix of both baseball stars, past and present, and musical and celebrity talent. To name a few, there’s former New York Yankee and guitar afficianado Bernie Williams, Bronson Arroyo, Barry Zito, and Aubrey Huff. Then you’ve got country music stars Keni Thomas, Ricky Chancey, and the Trailer Choir joining a few local personalities such as Tim and Willy from KMLE Country 108 and Jon Bloom from Sports 620 KTAR. The event is sure to be a lot of fun and will undoubtedly blow the roof off the joint.
In addition to the musical festivities, there will be a variety of merchandise being auctioned off, including hats, t-shirts, sweatshirts and jackets all emblazoned with the WoodJock 2010 logo. There were only 1,200 tickets (both general admission and VIP) made available, so if you’re in that neck of the woods, you should make it your business to come on down, have a great time and support the cause. Besides, what could be better than seeing Peavy doing arm windmills on his axe a la Pete Townsend?
The Jake Peavy Foundation raises funds and awareness for Team Focus, Strikeouts for Troops, Autism Speaks and a variety of other White Sox charities.
