2010 Lineup Thoughts
January 29th, 2010 | by Howard |With all of the fantasy coverage I’ve been doing over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been having a lot of thoughts as to what the White Sox lineup should look like now that we’ve gone from a few mashers in the middle to a more balanced group of players. Nothing is etched in stone and I’m sure Ozzie Guillen is going to play around with this straight through until Opening Day, but here’s a look at what I think it should be…
| LF | Juan Pierre |
| CF | Alex Rios |
| RF | Carlos Quentin |
| 1B | Paul Konerko |
| DH | Andruw Jones |
| 2B | Gordon Beckham |
| C | A.J. Pierzynski |
| 3B | Mark Teahen |
| SS | Alexei Ramirez |
Now, I’m certainly not stuck on this and I might want to make a tweak here and there — moving up Ramirez to the two hole, maybe, as an example. But I’d like to hear some of your thoughts on this as well.
I’m going to leave this as your project for today and I’ll be back tomorrow with a few insights into my thinking and what changes I may make.

1. I doubt Ozzie would bat two lefties in a row or 5 righties in a row. I’d expect Pierzynski or Teahen to bat 5th.
2. I’d prefer Rios lower in the order. If Ozzie isn’t opposed to two lefties in a row then I think Teahen would be a good candidate for the No 2 spot.
3. I think Jones’ average will be too low and we’ll see him in the bototm third.
Here’s what my lineup would be:

That’s why I like having you around, Striker.
The problem with doing a post on the fly — poor on my part…wasn’t even thinking lefty/righty.
Thanks for chiming in!
I thought about Teahen in the 2 hole as well, but I don’t know about throwing Andruw into the 9 hole. Really curious as to how he does in the spring. Maybe I’m thinking too much like a fantasy guy and blindly hoping he brings his average up to atleast .260.

OK folks….
How about this…?
LF Juan Pierre
SS Alexei Ramirez
RF Carlos Quentin
1B Paul Konerko
C A.J. Pierzynski
2B Gordon Beckham
3B Mark Teahen
DH Andruw Jones
CF Alex Rios
It definitely spreads out the lefty/righty matchups that I blew before, it keeps Ramirez up near the top where he was successful last year, and it throws a little speed at the bottom with Rios to get the ball rolling again for the top of the order.
Thoughts?

That looks good to me.

Yeah that 2nd lineup looks right to me. The two concerns I had with the original one were Jones and Rios. Obviously I’m pretty down on Rios, but having Jones in the 4 hole as Konerko’s protection is an issue (unless Andruw has located a time machine he isn’t telling anybody about). I think by mid season Guillen would love to be able to move Beckham in front of Quentin and move everyone else down one. If Rios plays to his potential, he’d be perfect for that move to the 3 spot as well.

No confirmation on Andruw’s time machine but I’ve heard some rumors.
Would love to see Beckham’s power develop more to be moved into the 3 hole. it would be a huge boost.
Plenty of eyes on Rios this year. Really hope he comes through.
