Buehrle Golden and Trade for Teahan goes down

November 11th, 2009 | by kletus25 |

Tuesday, Pitcher Mark Buehrle was honored with the one award he wanted the most as he was announced as the AL Gold Glove winning pitcher.  He is only the second White Sox pitcher to earn the honor wit Jim Kaat. Buehrle joins C Joe Mauer (Twins), 1B Mark Teixeira (Yankees), 2B Placido Polanco (Tigers), 3B Evan Longoria (Rays), SS Derek Jeter (Yankees) OF Torii Hunter (Angels), OF Ichiro Suzuki (Mariners) OF Adam Jones (Orioles) as the other AL Gold Glovers.

The White Sox acquired IF/OF Mark Teahan from the Kansas City Royals for 2B Chris Getz and 3B Josh Fields on Friday.  With the Trade, GM Ken Williams shifted around some the the players to strengthen the infield for the White Sox.  He will have the newly acquired Teahan play Third and move Gordon Beckham to Second and keep Alexei Ramirez at Short.  Williams explained the move saying that Ramirez is a better Shortstop than Beckham (granted Beckham has played the position since college) and Teahan is a natural at Thrid and Beckham almost won the job at second at the start of the year and has reassured GM Williams that he can play the position.  This is a great move of the ChiSox as it will stablize the middle of the infield and give C A.J. Pierzynski two great targets to throw down to.  The White Sox are setting themselves to make a run at the Tigers and the Twins for the AL Central Crown.  The first test will be to see how the team gels during Spring Training.
