ChiSox ink Kotsay, might trade Fields and Geta, and want Danks long-term

November 5th, 2009 | by kletus25 |

On Thursday, the Chicago White Sox signed Center-Fielder Mark Kotsay to a one-year/1.5 million dollar deal.  Kostay was acquired from the Red Sox for Brian Anderson back on July 28th.  Kotsay was eligible for free agency.  Manager Ozzie Guillen expected to bring back the 13 year vet.  He is a very versitile player with the ability to play all three out field positions, first base and DH for the team.  This move should help stabilize the outfield as well as allow Paul Konerko to DH more games with Kotsay taking games at first.

There is a report out there that the White Sox are interested in sending 2B Chris Getz and 3B Josh Fields to the Kansas City Royals for OF Mark Teahan.  While, both sides are denying the report, it has surfaced in the New York Post and the Chicago Sun-Times.  If this deal is done, Teahan would be the likely replacement for Jermaine Dye in Right Field, who is thinking of leaving the team for free agency.  Losing Getz and Fields woul mean that the White Sox would be losing two dependable infielders.  Fields who started the year at third and lost his job to rookie Gordon Beckham can also play some first of need be.  Getz was the everyday second baseman for the team.  Losing those two guys would weaken the infield that Guillen has.  While Fields can be a role player off the bench, losing Getz is hard to believe, especially with no one knowing who would be his replacement.

The White Sox would like to sign Pitcher John Danks to a long term deal.  Danks proved to be a great number three man in the rotation and would serve great behind starters Mark Buehrle and Jake Peavy, looking to pitch his first full season since 2007.  The White Sox are stacked with pitching in the first four slots of the rotation with Peavy, Buehrle, Danks and Floyd.  They signed Freddie Garcia in October to use as a fifth starter.  This would give the ChiSox a great advantange, especially if they can look uop Danks giving them their future 1 and 2 starters in Danks and Floyd.
