On a night when the White Sox were elimiated from playoff contention, they helped the Minnesota Twins gain some ground on the Detroit Tigers with a 2-0 win over those Tigers.
Jake Peavy pitched seven shutout innings to pick up his second win in the same number of starts since joining the White Sox. The bullpen continued to hold down the Tigers offense with two good innings to finish the shut out. All the offense that the White Sox needed would come from a two-run homer from 3B Gordon Beckham in the sixth inning.
The White Sox are 74-80 for the seaon. They are sitting 8.5 games behind the Tigers. Game Two of this three game set is scheduled for 6:05 PM CDT at U.S. Cellular Field. The Tigers will be sending LHP Nate Robinson to the bump against RHP Freddy Garcia for the White Sox.
