Losing streak stretches to six
September 22nd, 2009 | by kletus25 |If a shot at the playoffs was slim after losing the last two of a series to the Seattle Mariners, I believe that all hope is gone after being swept by the Kansas City Royals and losing the first game of the three game set to the Minnesota Twins. The White Sox are in the midst of a nine game home stand, all against teams from the AL Central. They play Minnesota tonight and tomorrow with an off day on Thursday, then host the Detroit Tigers for the last three games of the season at U.S. Cellular Field.
If any changes are coming, I do not think that you will see GM Kenny Williams or Manager Ozzie Gullien fired. The biggest question during the offseason will be the health of pitcher Jake Peavy. Peavy was picked up at the trading dead line from the San Diego Padres. Peavy has made one start for the White Sox, a loss to the Kansas CIty Royals. If Peavy can get health and pitch like the Peavy of the last few seasons, the White Sox will have a lethal one-two punch of Mark Buehrle and Peavy. With John Danks and Gavin Floyd as capable pitchers is the three and four holes of the rotation.
Offensively, they need to find another bat. Picking up Alex Rios from the Blue Jays was an ok move, they need someone that can help at first and DH for them to rotate with Paul Konerko. The offseason will be interesting to see what happens here.
The White Sox are 73-78. They sit in third place in the AL Central trailing the Detroit Tigers by 7 games. Tonight, the White Sox do battle with the Minnesota Twins at U.S. Cellular Field with first pitch at 7:11 PM CDT. On the bump for the White Sox will be LHP John Danks taking on Twins starter RHP Jeff Manship.
