A Quick Reivew of the Weekend

June 22nd, 2009 | by kletus25 |

Here is just a quick recap of the weekend series with the Cincinnati Reds.

Coming off the 6 – 5 loss to the Chicago Cubs Thursday Night, in which the bullpen gave up the last 5 Cub runs in the final two innings, the Pale Hose made a trip to Southwest Ohio to take on the Cincinnati Reds.

06/19/08 – White Sox 3; Cincinnati 4

Jose Contreras was coming off winning his second straight start after starting the year 0-5 and doing a stint in the minors to help him get his confidence back.  He pitched well, but the White Sox Offense struggled to put enough runs on the board to help him.  Paul Konerko blasting career Home Run # 300, Chris Getz hitting his first home run of his career, Scott Podsednik rattling a double, and Brian Anderson slapping a single were all the hits that they could put up against Reds Stater Bronson Arroyo  The difference maker of the game was the home run that Reds 2B Brandon Phillips put into the Left Field Stands are the Great American Ballpark.

06/20/08 – White Sox 10, Cincinnati 8

Saturday’s game marked the playing of MLB’s third annual ”Civil Rights” Game at the Great American Ballpark.  The teams donned throwback uniforms from the 1960s for the game.  This game proved that you can win in ways that are not prototypical.  While they committed four errors, they corrected those mistakes by crushings four offerings by Reds pitchers to the bleachers.  While trailing 5-0 in the forth inning, Gordon Beckman took a 2-1 pitch from Johnny Cuerto and smacked it for his first career home run and helped start a 5 run rally to tie the game at 5-5.  The White Sox took control from there to post a 10-8 victory.

06/21/09 – White Sox 4, Cincinnati 1

In the rubber game of the three game set, the Pale Hose outstanding Lefty, Mark Buehrle (who had not won a start since May 19th) showed why his is one of the top pitchers on the staff.  Buehrle pitched seven strong innings while scattering five hits, giving up zero runs, recording three strike outs and walking only one Cincinnati batter.  Bobby Jenks pitched a perfect ninth to record his 17th save of the season.  The Reds scored their lone run on Reliever Scott Linebrink in the eighth.  The offense was lead by LF Scott Podsednik with two singles and scored two of the four White Sox runs.

The White Sox are currently third in the AL Central with a 33-36 record.  They trail the first place Detroit Tigers by 5 games. The Good Guys have a travel day today as they return home for a six game homestand with the Dodgers coming to town for three on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thrusday.  Then, for the weekend, it’s another WIndy City Series as the Chicago Cubs come to The Cell for a three game set to conclude the White Sox interleague schedule for the 2009 Season.
